Campania health authorities face funding shortfall threatening radiotherapy and social care services
Regional councilor Vincenzo Santangelo warned that the lack of a clear programming and secured resources for 2026 could interrupt radiotherapy treatments for up to 15,000 cancer patients in Campania. He urged the regional government to adopt an emergency safeguard measure to release the needed funds, set up a permanent technical‑political board with hospitals, ASL and patient representatives, and publish monthly monitoring of radiotherapy provision.
The regional branch of the National Union of Cooperative Health Enterprises (UNCI Campania), led by Gennaro Scognamiglio, appealed to President Roberto Fico and Social Policies assessor Andrea Morniroli to unblock payments owed by ASL to cooperatives and sociosanitary companies. Delays in May salaries and 2025 balances risk jeopardising rehabilitation and care services for disabled and elderly patients, and could force providers to rely on costly bank advances. UNCI called for uniform procedures and timely settlement of the regional health share for social‑health services.
