Campania healthcare projects moved from PNRR funding

The Campania regional government has announced a restructuring of 35 healthcare projects, including 27 community houses and 8 community hospitals, which have been removed from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The shift affects approximately 99 million euros in resources, with the majority of projects located in the Salerno, Caserta, and Napoli 3 health authority areas.

Regional authorities stated that the projects were removed because their implementation timelines were no longer compatible with the PNRR target deadline of June 30, 2026. The delays were attributed to technical, administrative, and procedural issues, such as executive design delays and authorization difficulties. To ensure the works are still completed, the region has reallocated the funding to the European Regional Development Fund (FESR) 2021-2027.

Fratelli d’Italia regional councilor Raffaele Maria Pisacane has criticized the move, questioning how 35 new projects were able to enter the PNRR so close to the deadline if the original ones were deemed unfeasible. He has called for inspections from the Ministry of Health to clarify the selection process and the status of the replacement interventions.
