Campania regional healthcare funding and administration

The Campania region is experiencing significant healthcare funding and administrative challenges. In early August, the Assembly of AIOP Campania warned of a potential crisis in private accredited care homes. The organization stated that if the regional government does not implement concrete measures by 15 September, admissions for rehabilitation, long-term care, and elective procedures would be suspended starting 16 September, leaving only urgent cases to be handled. This potential stoppage threatened both patient access to services and the stability of thousands of healthcare workers.

By late August, the regional government announced a restructuring of 35 healthcare projects, including community houses and hospitals, which were removed from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Approximately 99 million euros in resources were affected due to implementation timelines being incompatible with the PNRR deadline of June 30, 2026. While the region intends to reallocate these funds to the European Regional Development Fund (FESR) 2021-2027 to ensure completion, the move has faced criticism from regional councilors calling for inspections into the selection process and administrative delays.
