Campania implements European emergency number 112

The Campania region has begun the phased rollout of the Numero Unico Europeo (NUE) 112, the single European emergency number. The service initially launched in the telephone districts of Salerno, Battipaglia, Vallo della Lucania, and Sala Consilina (prefixes 089, 0828, 0974, and 0975).

The implementation will expand across the region in stages: Avellino and Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi on November 10, Caserta and Benevento on November 24, and finally Naples on December 9. The service is free of charge for both landlines and mobile phones.

While traditional numbers such as 113, 115, and 118 remain functional, calls will be routed through the NUE 112 unified response centers. These centers are responsible for identifying the nature of the emergency—whether it requires police, fire services, or medical assistance—and forwarding the request to the appropriate operational center. The system is also designed to automatically acquire location data from both landlines and mobile devices to assist responders in locating callers.
