Campania marks 50 years of free radio

On Tuesday 28 July 2026, the Campania Regional Council hosted “Campania On Air – Giornata delle Radio Libere della Campania” at the Sala Giancarlo Siani in the Centro Direzionale of Naples (Isola F13) at 10:30. The event, organized by the Fondazione AdAstra under the patronage of the regional council, commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Constitutional Court’s 28 July 1976 ruling that liberalised the Italian airwaves.

The celebration highlighted the region’s 2022 law (regional law n. 12) that established the annual “Free Radio Day”. Speakers included President of the Regional Council Massimiliano Manfredi, regional councillor Franco Picarone, Napoli municipal council president Vincenza Amato, Corecom Campania president Carola Barbato, and university delegates Lello Savonardo and Luigi Caramiello. Awards were presented to local free‑radio stations, and the project for a Festival of Free Radio, slated to become an annual event from 2027, was announced.

The ceremony underscored the historic, cultural and social value of community radio in Campania and aimed to promote its future development.
