Campania On Air marks 50 years of free radio in Italy's Campania region
The first edition of “Campania On Air – Giornata delle Radio Libere della Campania” was held in the Sala Giancarlo Siani of the Regional Council of Campania. Organized by the Fondazione AdAstra, the event commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Constitutional Court’s 28 July 1976 decision that ended the state monopoly on broadcasting and launched the era of free radio in Italy.
Regional councillor Franco Picarone, who helped enact the 2022 regional law establishing the celebration day, highlighted the role of community radio in providing local information free from algorithmic control. Awards were presented, including the “Premio Le Voci della Campania” to Radio Bussola 24 director Teodoro Maffia, and a proposal for a Festival of Free Radio was unveiled.
The gathering brought together dozens of radio stations, institutional representatives, journalists and media professionals from across Campania.
