Campania private healthcare providers threaten service suspension
Private accredited healthcare facilities in the Campania region are threatening to suspend various medical activities starting September 15 if the regional government does not provide concrete financial solutions. The potential suspension includes scheduled admissions for rehabilitation, long-term care, and elective medical and surgical procedures, as well as certain outpatient services. While emergency services would continue, patients might be transferred to public hospitals, potentially increasing pressure on an already strained public system.
The crisis is driven by economic concerns, including insufficient budgets, inadequate tariffs, and significant payment delays. The association Aiop has signaled that without a clear resource plan for 2026, these service reductions may become necessary. This situation also impacts oncology services, specifically radiotherapy, where private facilities provide a significant portion of treatments.
In response to the potential service suspension, labor unions including Uil Fp and Fp Cgil have declared a state of agitation. Unions are calling for an institutional meeting to discuss healthcare programming, tariffs, and the protection of workers' rights. They have expressed concern that employees should not bear the brunt of budget disputes between private providers and the regional administration, noting that many workers are already facing salary delays.
