Campania Region Clears Budget Deficit Twelve Years Early
The Campania regional budget commission, led by Corrado Matera of the Democratic Party, began examining a draft regional budget adjustment law presented by regional president Roberto Fico. The commission highlighted that the region has permanently eliminated the 2014‑2015 deficit, achieving the target twelve years ahead of schedule after a decade of fiscal discipline under Governor Vincenzo De Luca.
The saved margins are earmarked for strengthening public services and investments, including funding to keep additional municipal fees off passenger tickets at Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport, upgrades to water and wastewater systems, agricultural support, digitalisation of regional services, renewal of local public transport, and resources for municipalities to restore flood‑ and storm‑damage mitigation works.
