Campania Region Faces Suspension of Private Care Home Admissions Amid Funding Crisis

The Assembly of AIOP Campania officially confirmed a crisis in the region's private accredited care homes, citing unresolved economic and organisational issues. It warned that if the Campania regional government does not adopt concrete measures by 15 September, scheduled admissions for rehabilitation, long‑term care and elective medical or surgical procedures will be suspended from 16 September, with only urgent cases guaranteed and patients redirected to public hospitals.

The stoppage threatens thousands of citizens who rely on these services and thousands of workers employed by the facilities, which are considering activity suspensions and the use of social safety nets such as wage subsidies. The crisis also affects radiotherapy centres awaiting funding. Regional President Roberto Fico has been criticised for insufficient political attention, and AIOP Campania has urged the region to approve adequate resources and a clear programming plan to prevent a broader health and social emergency in Campania.
