Calabria approves health recovery plan and new territorial initiatives

The Calabria regional government, led by President Roberto Occhiuto, approved a three‑year health recovery programme for 2026‑2028 that allocates €54.6 million to strengthen territorial assistance. The funding will be distributed to the provincial health agencies of Cosenza, Crotone, Catanzaro, Vibo Valentia and Reggio Calabria to support community health units, territorial operative centres, community hospitals and other local facilities, mainly covering additional staffing costs.

At the same time, the council endorsed guidelines for municipalities to join the "Rete dei Borghi della Calabria", a network aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and preserving the cultural, historical and environmental heritage of the region’s small towns. An additional €205 000 from the national sport promotion fund will be used to equip about 79 primary schools, especially in inner‑area districts, with basic sports kits for roughly 60 000 pupils.

The administration also launched the CalabriAmbiente mobile app, enabling citizens to report fires, environmental offences and other territorial incidents through an interactive map. Other measures include the creation of a regional list of intercultural mediators, a waste‑management plan for the Port of Catanzaro Marina, and the adoption of national safety‑training agreements for workplaces.
