Campania Region announces upgrades to Vesuvian rail lines
The Campania Region and EAV have announced a major enhancement plan for the Vesuvian rail lines, known as the Circumvesuviana. Starting October 17, a new schedule will introduce a regular 30-minute frequency, replacing the previous 36-minute intervals to create a more intuitive and predictable service for commuters.
The upgrade includes the introduction of 10 new Etr 300 trains to the fleet. The total service capacity will increase to 280 daily trips, offering approximately 171,988 seats per day. Key routes benefiting from the changes include Napoli–Sorrento with 68 daily trips, Napoli–Torre Annunziata with 66 trips, and connections to Poggiomarino and Sarno.
Campania President Roberto Fico emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure efficient and safe public mobility. The plan also aims to improve integration between rail services and EAV bus connections, specifically in the coastal areas where bus frequencies are expected to double from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes.
