Campi Flegrei: Government considers special law for seismic emergency
Political leaders and government officials are debating the response to the seismic emergency in the Campi Flegrei region. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has indicated that the government is considering a special law to provide systematic and effective support to the area following the recent period of instability.
Regional opposition leaders from the center-right, led by Gennaro Sangiuliano, met with Ministers Piantedosi and Nello Musumeci in Rome to demand a national state of emergency. They argue that this status is necessary to rapidly access 100 million euros in government funds to assist the approximately 4,000 displaced residents and to provide economic relief to local businesses and tourism sectors.
Conversely, the Democratic Party (PD) has proposed a different approach, including a law to allocate 7 million euros to support families and municipalities. The center-right opposition has criticized the Campania regional government, led by Roberto Fico, for its perceived failure to officially request a state of emergency, calling the delay irresponsible.
