Campi Flegrei emergency: unified amendments planned for August 31

Authorities and local leaders in the Campi Flegrei region are coordinating a unified response to the ongoing bradyseism emergency. A steering committee, led by Naples Prefect Michele di Bari, is drafting a package of amendments to the Campi Flegrei decree. This document is scheduled to be presented to Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi on August 31.

The proposed measures focus on three main pillars: facilitating the return of displaced families to their homes, providing compensation for businesses and entrepreneurs affected by the earthquake and subsequent security measures, and accelerating administrative procedures to reduce delays. Currently, approximately 3,830 people remain displaced due to the seismic activity.

In Pozzuoli, local opposition councilors are intensifying their demands, calling for a formal state of emergency and the appointment of a local commissioner. They have also proposed immediate relief measures, including rent controls, mortgage suspensions, and tax cancellations. Meanwhile, the Emergency Committee for Campi Flegrei has organized a protest march involving torches and lights, scheduled for August 26 at 19:15, to draw attention to the needs of the affected population.
