Campi Flegrei emergency: unified amendments planned for August 31
Authorities and local representatives in the Campi Flegrei region are coordinating a unified response to the ongoing bradyseism emergency. A steering committee, led by Naples Prefect Michele di Bari, is developing a comprehensive package of amendments to the Campi Flegrei decree. This document, scheduled for presentation to Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi on August 31, aims to address critical needs including the rapid return of displaced families to their homes and financial support for affected businesses.
Currently, 3,830 people remain displaced following the seismic activity. The Campania Region has allocated 1 million euros to support displaced households, with funds split between autonomous accommodation and hotel stays. Regional President Roberto Fico has advocated for a special law for the area to provide long-term structural stability rather than temporary measures.
Local opposition leaders in Pozzuoli are also demanding an immediate state of emergency and the appointment of a local commissioner. They have proposed additional measures such as rent controls, mortgage suspensions, and the requisition of empty homes to assist the population.
