Campi Flegrei: Magnitude 3.0 earthquake strikes near Pozzuoli
A magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck the Campi Flegrei region near Pozzuoli at 2:27 AM on August 10, 2026. The tremor, occurring at a depth of 4 km, was felt in Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Quarto, and parts of Naples. While the Osservatorio Vesuviano reported the end of a nocturnal seismic swarm, it confirmed that bradysemism activity remains persistent.
The seismic activity follows a major magnitude 4.7 earthquake on July 31. Currently, 813 families, totaling 2,129 people, have been evacuated from Pozzuoli, with most in autonomous accommodation and some in hotels or local shelters. Over 1,200 technical inspections of buildings have been conducted since the emergency began.
In response, the Italian government issued a decree allocating 100 million euros for the repair and seismic requalification of damaged properties. Additionally, the Campania PD group has proposed a regional law to provide an extra 5 million euros to Pozzuoli. Campania President Roberto Fico is advocating for a permanent special law for the region to manage long-term volcanic risks rather than relying solely on emergency measures.
