Campi Flegrei earthquake of magnitude 3.6 rattles Naples region

A magnitude‑3.6 tremor struck the Campi Flegrei caldera near Naples at 04:17 CET on 25 June 2026, with its epicentre a few kilometres from Pozzuoli and a depth of about 3 km. The quake was felt across the western districts of Naples and nearby towns such as Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Quarto, Monte di Procida and Arco Felice. Residents reported a clear shaking and a brief boom, but no injuries or structural damage were recorded.

The event followed a magnitude‑3.0 shock the previous night (03:02 CET, 24 June) and a short swarm of at least eight smaller quakes. Local authorities responded promptly: Prefect Michele di Bari convened an emergency coordination meeting with the mayors of Pozzuoli, Bacoli and Monte di Procida, the INGV Vesuvian Observatory, regional and municipal civil‑protection services, fire‑brigade, health agencies, the railway operator and the port authority. Precautionary measures included the temporary closure of 25 archaeological sites managed by the Campi Flegrei Park and inspections of schools and public buildings. The INGV will continue to monitor the seismic activity, which is linked to the ongoing bradyseism phenomenon in the caldera.
