Campi Flegrei volcanic risks prompt calls for permanent evacuation

Concerns are rising regarding the volcanic risks in the Campi Flegrei caldera and the surrounding Gulf of Naples. The region faces significant geological threats from the Campi Flegrei caldera, which has been active for at least 100,000 years, as well as the nearby Vesuvius volcano.

Due to the ongoing bradyseism—a phenomenon where the ground rises or falls due to volcanic activity—earthquakes are occurring in the area. There are calls for the permanent evacuation of municipalities surrounding the Campi Flegrei to prevent potential mass casualties in the event of a major eruption or seismic event.
