Campina Grande court orders 10% racial quota in municipal public exam

A Brazilian court granted an urgent injunction filed by the Ministry of Public Prosecutor of Paraíba (MPPB) and prosecutor Márcio Gondim, ordering the Municipality of Campina Grande and the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Educacional, Cultural e Assistencial Nacional (Idecan) to reserve 10% of the general vacancies in the upcoming municipal public exam for black candidates, as required by municipal law 6.044/2015.

The ruling mandates that the original edital (No 01/2026) be corrected within ten days to specify the number of reserved slots, the classification and appointment rules, and the hetero‑identification procedure. It also requires the reopening of registrations for at least ten days, allowing already‑registered candidates to opt for the reserved positions without any additional fee, and permitting new applicants to register. The exam schedule must be adjusted accordingly, and the corrected edital must be publicized through the same official channels as the original. Non‑compliance will incur a daily fine of R$ 10,000, capped at R$ 100,000.
