Campinas bans public advertising of betting platforms
The municipal government of Campinas issued a decree prohibiting any advertising of sports betting platforms on public panels, billboards, bus shelters, taxis, and other municipal spaces. The rule, effective upon publication in the official gazette on 31 May, aims to shield children, adolescents and economically vulnerable people from exposure to gambling promotion. Enforcement will be handled by the city's Technical Services Department, with penalties including revocation of advertising permits.
At the federal level, Brazil maintains a regulated list of 188 betting operators authorized by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance under Law 14.790/2023. Only these licensed platforms may offer fixed‑odds betting, distinguishing them from illegal services. The list, regularly updated, includes companies such as Betpix, ObaBet, and Caixa Lotéricas, reflecting the broader national framework within which Campinas’ local advertising ban operates.
