Campo Grande hosts drive for new National Identity Card
A special drive in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, will offer 500 walk-in appointments for the issuance of the new National Identity Card (CIN) this Friday and Saturday. The event, organized by the State Secretariat of Justice and Public Security (Sejusp), will distribute 250 tokens per day at the Pátio O Shopping identification post. The first copy of the CIN is free of charge.
The CIN is gradually replacing the old RG system across Brazil, using the CPF as a unique national identification number to reduce fraud. While the transition is underway, the old RG remains valid for most citizens until February 28, 2032. However, specific deadlines apply for social security; starting January 1, 2028, the CIN will be required for procedures involving the National Social Security Institute (INSS).
The new document features a QR Code for authenticity and is available in both physical and digital formats via the Gov.br app. It also meets international standards for travel within Mercosul countries.
