Campo Grande launches citywide dengue control campaign, inspecting 17,000 homes
The municipal government of Campo Grande began a week‑long mobilization against the Aedes aegypti mosquito on Monday, March 3. A task force of endemic disease agents will visit more than 17,000 residences by Saturday, March 8, carrying out environmental management, insecticide spraying (fumacê), and community education.
Teams will use the Rapid Survey of Aedes Indices (LIRAa) to pinpoint neighborhoods with the highest mosquito infestation and direct control measures accordingly. According to the latest epidemiological report for the 29th week of 2026, the city recorded 1,364 dengue notifications, with no severe cases or deaths, as well as one confirmed Zika case and 37 chikungunya cases, also without fatalities. Rubens Bitancourt, manager of vector‑borne disease control at the municipal health secretariat, emphasized that LIRAa enables faster, more efficient interventions. Endemic agent Fernanda Veríssimo highlighted the role of health education in preventing mosquito breeding sites.
