Campo Grande school games conclude individual events

The municipal government of Campo Grande, through the Fundação Municipal de Esportes (Funesp), wrapped up the individual stage of the 38th Jogos Escolares de Campo Grande over the weekend. The final cycling race was held on Saturday, 13 May, at Praça do Papa with 16 young athletes, followed by a mountain‑bike competition on Sunday, 14 May, at Parque Ayrton Senna involving 28 competitors.

The event, which gathers students aged 12–17 from the capital, serves as a qualifier for the Jogos Escolares da Juventude of Mato Grosso do Sul. Athletes compete in categories A (15‑17) and B (12‑14) for both genders across a range of sports, including athletics, badminton, gymnastics, judo, karate, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, beach volleyball, wrestling and chess. Organizer Julio Sandim said the competitions were “a real success” that attracted large crowds and showcased high technical levels and sportspersonship.

The games aim to promote school sport as a tool for development, inclusion and talent identification, giving children and teenagers the chance to train, compete and represent Campo Grande in state‑level competitions.
