Brazilian regional school sports 2026 – July updates

In late May, Minas Gerais launched the microrregional phase of its 2026 school games, sending over 1,500 athletes to Ipatinga and 1,800 to Janaúba for volleyball, chess, futsal, handball and basketball. June saw the eighth regional stage of the Mato Grosso School and Student Games in Canarana with more than 1,100 participants, while Mato Grosso do Sul ran a multi‑city youth programme in Campo Grande involving 3,268 athletes and adding athletics, badminton, judo, gymnastics, swimming and wrestling. Campo Grande’s individual stage concluded with cycling and mountain‑bike races that served as qualifiers for state‑wide youth games. June 23 featured Corumbá’s migration‑themed writing contest and the 49th municipal school‑games futsal final in Campo Grande. The São Paulo State Secretariat of Sports announced the 68th São Paulo Regional Games in Praia Grande (14‑23 July); Santos will field 395 athletes in 44 sports and Ubatuba will compete in 23 disciplines. Early July, Atibaia sent 237 athletes to Itatiba for athletics, basketball, karate and swimming, and Jales dispatched 100 athletes to Penápolis for a range of sports including 3×3 basketball and football. Mid‑July, Presidente Prudente added swimming medals in Tupã, Apucarana led athletics with ten medals at the 72nd Jogos Escolares, and Valinhos earned podiums in karate, badminton, beach volleyball and tennis. Atibaia earned its first medals, including silver in Sub‑21 tennis and several golds in taekwondo, while Araçatuba seized the overall lead in the 68th São Paulo Regional Games with 121 points, boosted by a men’s handball title. The fourth stage of the Copa Conesul Mountain Bike was staged in Dourados, drawing roughly 200 riders across Pro, Sport, Tourism and E‑bike categories, with prize money of R$1,000 for the men’s Pro winner and R$800 for the women’s elite champion.
