Campobasso deploys 160 smart bins for urban waste management

The city of Campobasso has deployed 160 smart bins across public spaces, funded through the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) and managed via SEA. These solar-powered containers feature a 240-liter capacity and an automatic internal press that compresses waste to reduce volume and optimize collection frequency.

While most units are designated for residual waste, replacing traditional paper bins, certain high-traffic areas feature multi-module systems for the separate collection of plastic, cans, paper, and glass. Each unit also includes a dedicated compartment for cigarette butts to combat environmental littering.

Environmental Councilor Simone Cretella emphasized that these bins are strictly for small public waste and not for domestic refuse. To prevent misuse, the disposal openings are specifically designed with a small diameter to block large bags or bulky items.
