Waste management developments in Campobasso

Waste management initiatives in Campobasso have focused on improving urban decorum and collection efficiency. Initially, efforts centered on a used clothing collection service managed by SEA S.p.A. and Pezzamificio sas, which had collected approximately five tons of clothing. However, officials noted issues with cleanliness where clothing was being left on the ground despite available space in containers. Local Environment Councilor Simone Cretella urged citizens to use the fifty available bins correctly by placing items in closed bags inside the containers.

To further modernize urban waste management, the city deployed 160 solar-powered smart bins funded by the PNRR. Managed by SEA, these 240-liter containers utilize an automatic internal press to compress waste and optimize collection frequency. While most units are for residual waste, some high-traffic areas utilize multi-module systems for separating plastic, cans, paper, and glass, including dedicated compartments for cigarette butts. Councilor Cretella noted that these bins are intended for small public waste and feature small disposal openings to prevent the misuse of large bags or bulky domestic refuse.
