Can Tho accelerates sand mining for Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway

Authorities in Can Tho are taking urgent measures to increase sand mining to support the construction of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway. Component Project 4 of the expressway is currently facing a 25% delay compared to the original schedule, with completed contract value reaching 55.64% of the total.

The primary cause of the delay is a shortage of leveling sand. While the project requires approximately 7.269 million cubic meters of sand, only about 4.109 million cubic meters have been delivered to the site. Although a supply of 6.5 million cubic meters has been identified—comprising 6 million cubic meters of river sand and 0.5 million cubic meters of sea sand—the actual supply speed has not met construction demands.

Le Cong Ly, Standing Vice Chairman of the Can Tho People's Committee, has directed contractors to prioritize designated sand mines to ensure timely delivery. To address a remaining deficit of approximately 0.77 million cubic meters, Can Tho is coordinating with Vinh Long Province to request access to additional sand mines in that region. Efforts are also underway to expand supply through the B1.4 sea sand mine and by accelerating licensing for new mines such as Tan Loc and Phuoc Loc.
