Can Tho considers new airport and administrative center relocation

Can Tho is considering major urban restructuring as part of its draft general planning through 2050, with a vision to 2075. The proposal, currently undergoing public consultation, includes researching the construction of a new airport in the southern part of the city to complement the existing Can Tho International Airport.

Two primary locations for the potential new airport are being studied: the coastal area of Tran De, which could create a multi-modal transport hub linking aviation, maritime, and road logistics, and a site south of the former Soc Trang area near major expressway intersections.

Additionally, the draft planning suggests relocating the city's administrative center from Ninh Kieu to Nga Bay. The Can Tho Department of Construction has clarified that these are research proposals provided by consultants and do not yet constitute final decisions or official investment plans. Public feedback is being collected until September 16, 2026.
