Can Tho officials address material shortages for Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway
Authorities in Can Tho are addressing significant delays and material shortages affecting the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway project. The 188km expressway, with a total investment of nearly 45 trillion VND, is facing critical bottlenecks, particularly regarding sand supplies for construction.
Component Project 4 is currently facing a deficit of over 3.2 million cubic meters of sand. Current supply rates are reportedly only about 10% of the actual demand. In response, Can Tho Chairman Truong Canh Tuyen has directed officials to expedite procedures for sand mines and to hold contractors strictly accountable for progress. Contractors demonstrating poor capacity or slow progress may have their workloads reassigned to more capable firms.
In Component Project 2, which spans approximately 37.42 km through Can Tho, land clearance is complete and all 30 bridges have been constructed. While disbursement for this section has reached 93.72%, the project still requires approximately 1.44 million cubic meters of sand for embankment loading and faces a shortage of identified stone sources.
