Can Tho advances urban planning and infrastructure projects

Can Tho is undergoing significant urban and infrastructure developments. The city is reviewing its general planning through 2050, with a vision to 2075. Proposed plans include establishing two development poles, with the second being the Tran De marine economic zone. Two potential locations for a new administrative center are under consideration: the Tay Do Cultural Center near the Can Tho River and an area south of the West Ring Road.

Regarding housing, the city has approved investment for five social housing projects and has authorized over 1,600 future housing units for business. The city has completed approximately 24% of its annual social housing target.

Infrastructure projects face logistical challenges. The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway is currently experiencing a shortage of approximately 2.57 million cubic meters of stone and a lack of sand for construction. Meanwhile, experts have raised concerns during planning consultations regarding the location of a potential airport, suggesting that proximity to the city center is vital for economic benefit.
