Can Tho refines locations for new administrative center

Authorities in Can Tho are refining plans for the city’s new administrative center. Following public consultation, the number of proposed locations has been reduced from four to two.

The two remaining options include the Tay Do Cultural Center area in Hung Phu Ward, covering approximately 56 hectares, and a site north of the West Ring Road in Long Tuyen Ward and Phong Dien Commune, covering approximately 210 hectares. The Tay Do Cultural Center location, situated near the Can Tho River, is considered a priority by consultants due to its central location and connectivity. However, a final decision remains subject to higher-level authority approval and public asset management regulations.

In addition to urban planning, officials highlighted the region's economic potential during a trade and investment forum. Discussions included expanding the Can Tho International Airport urban planning to 6,000 hectares and seeking direct flights to Chinese cities like Chongqing and Yunnan. The city also emphasized its strengths in energy industries, including wind, solar, and gas power, as well as its significant agricultural output.
