CANACAR reports 15 cargo transport operators murdered in Mexico in 2026
The National Chamber of Freight Transport (CANACAR) reports that 15 cargo transport operators have been murdered in Mexico during 2026. According to Norberto Limón Ambrosio, the CANACAR delegate in Veracruz, three of these victims were from the state of Veracruz.
While highway robberies have seen a slight decrease, the sector is facing an increase in violence directed specifically at drivers. Officials noted that criminal activity has become more aggressive, with perpetrators targeting the operators themselves rather than just the cargo or vehicles. CANACAR estimates that a cargo truck is stolen every 50 minutes across the country.
To address these security concerns, CANACAR plans to meet with the Federal Public Security Secretariat to implement a new security device. This initiative aims to establish a direct communication channel between the CANACAR delegation and security authorities via C5 centers to improve prevention and response capabilities.
