Canada and Ukraine sign defense pact and energy memorandum
During President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Canada, Ukraine and Canada strengthened bilateral ties through a century-long defense agreement and several new support packages.
In the energy sector, the Naftogaz Group signed a memorandum with Kino Aski LNG to explore potential long-term supplies of Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG). The collaboration aims to assess European demand and logistics, specifically considering the use of the LNG terminal in Klaipėda, Lithuania, where Naftogaz has reserved capacity for the period 2033–2044. Acting Chair of the Group’s Management Board Serhiy Fedorenko stated that exploring new routes and sources is intended to provide Ukraine with more competitive procurement options and greater flexibility in meeting its energy needs.
