Canada breaks ground on North Coast Transmission Line

The Government of Canada and its partners have broken ground on Phase 1 of the North Coast Transmission Line (NCTL) in British Columbia. This project expands the existing electricity transmission line running from Prince George to Terrace.

Once completed, the NCTL is expected to more than double the availability of clean, low-cost electricity along Canada’s West Coast. The infrastructure is intended to support transformative industrial projects, including the Ksi Lisims LNG facility and critical minerals developments in the Golden Triangle. The project is projected to create approximately $10 billion in new economic activity and nearly 10,000 jobs.

Environmentally, the expansion aims to reduce annual emissions by up to three million tonnes, which is equivalent to removing one million vehicles from the road each year. The initiative is part of Canada’s National Electricity Strategy, which seeks to double the national grid capacity by 2050 to ensure energy security and affordability.
