Canada initiates public consultation on AI transparency

The Canadian government announced a public consultation on AI transparency, running from July 23 to September 23 2026. Minister Evan Solomon highlighted the need for clear information on AI‑generated content, ways to identify when users are interacting with AI systems, and mechanisms to track serious AI incidents. The consultation seeks input on improving access to consistent, understandable details about AI systems, their capabilities, limitations, and the activities of AI agents.

At the same time, Canadian businesses are confronting obstacles in moving AI projects from pilot stages to widespread, revenue‑generating deployments. Executives cite data quality, governance, compliance, and organizational readiness as major hurdles. Blackstraw founder Atul Arya noted that many firms focus on adopting the latest AI models without addressing underlying data infrastructure and business processes, limiting the commercial value of AI initiatives across sectors such as healthcare, retail, manufacturing, logistics, and finance.
