Canada launches public consultations on AI transparency and cybersecurity

The Manitoba government will hold two public listening sessions—on Aug. 10 in Brandon and Aug. 12 in Winnipeg—to gather input on digital‑security measures, child protection online and the province’s new artificial‑intelligence governance framework. Premier Wab Kinew announced the Public Sector Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Governance Act earlier this year, and Innovation and New Technology Minister Mike Moroz said the sessions aim to shape forthcoming regulations.

At the federal level, Artificial Intelligence Minister Evan Solomon opened a nationwide consultation seeking Canadians’ views on AI transparency, including how to identify AI‑generated content, improve public access to information about AI systems, and track serious AI‑related incidents. The consultation runs until Sept. 23 and is intended to inform future policy on AI accountability and incident reporting.
