Canada opens AI transparency public consultation

The Canadian government announced a two‑month public consultation on artificial‑intelligence transparency, open from Thursday until Sept. 23. Led by AI Minister Evan Solomon, the initiative seeks input on five priority areas: detecting AI‑generated content, informing users when they interact with AI systems, providing clear information on AI capabilities and limitations, tracking serious AI‑related incidents, and monitoring the activity of autonomous AI agents. The consultation is part of the broader “AI for All” national strategy and aims to develop practical transparency rules that protect Canadians while fostering innovation.

Feedback is invited from citizens, permanent residents, businesses, researchers, Indigenous groups and other stakeholders. The government may use AI tools to process the responses. This follows an earlier consultation in October that informed the national AI strategy released in June, which emphasises trust, opportunity and digital sovereignty.
