Canada sees export growth in maple syrup and seafood

Canadian exports are seeing significant growth in both the maple syrup and seafood sectors. Maple syrup exports reached 844.2 million CAD in 2025, a 17.2% increase from the previous year. Producers like Hutchinson Acres in Nova Scotia report rising international demand from countries including the Netherlands, Costa Rica, and Saudi Arabia, as well as increased domestic sales amid ongoing Canada-US trade negotiations.

In the seafood sector, Canadian imports to Vietnam have risen sharply. Total seafood import value from Canada to Vietnam grew from 44 million USD in 2023 to 61 million USD in 2025. Key products gaining popularity in the Vietnamese market include lobster, snow crab, and oysters, driven by competitive pricing compared to other international varieties. Nova Scotia remains a major contributor, with snow crab and lobster representing significant export values to Vietnam. The CPTPP agreement further supports these trade flows by allowing certain seafood products to benefit from 0% import tariffs.
