The Canadian government has launched its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, branded “AI for All.” A new report tied to the Online News Act urges that future AI legislation include mechanisms to compensate news organisations when their content is used by artificial‑intelligence systems. The report warns that without copyright protections, large technology firms could repurpose news material without consent or payment. OpenAI’s vice‑president of global policy, Ann O’Leary, welcomed the initiative, saying the partnership aims to keep AI “useful and worthy of people’s trust.” The strategy also emphasizes building sovereign Canadian AI capabilities in computing, data, talent and infrastructure.
