Canadian police conduct major drug and firearm seizures

Law enforcement agencies in Canada have reported significant successes in targeting drug trafficking and illegal firearms.

In Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Police Service, in collaboration with the Canada Border Services Agency, concluded a months-long investigation resulting in the seizure of approximately $278,500 worth of property. The seizure included a .22 calibre rifle, a .38 calibre handgun, a 5.56 calibre assault rifle, three Glock auto-sears, 513 grams of cocaine, and $77,000 in cash. Six individuals have been charged, with two others also facing charges related to drug and firearm trafficking.

In Maple Ridge, the RCMP’s specialized units have focused on street disorder, property crime, and drug trafficking in the downtown core. During a four-day period between late June and early July, the Strike Force Unit seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, MDMA, and crack cocaine, leading to six arrests for drug trafficking and two additional arrests for outstanding warrants. The Crime Reduction Unit also conducted a retail shoplifting enforcement blitz in late July, resulting in seven arrests of prolific property offenders.
