Canadian law enforcement drug and firearm seizures
Overview
Law enforcement agencies across Canada have conducted various operations targeting illegal firearms and controlled substances.
In Kelowna, British Columbia, the RCMP’s Target Team and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a senior-housing residence on Jones Street. The operation resulted in the arrest of an individual with an outstanding provincial-wide warrant and the seizure of a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun and quantities of controlled substances. The City of Kelowna also cited the property for several bylaw violations.
In Winnipeg, a joint investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service and the Canada Border Services Agency led to the seizure of approximately $278,500 worth of property, including a .22 calibre rifle, a .38 calibre handgun, a 5.56 calibre assault rifle, three Glock auto-sears, 513 grams of cocaine, and $77,000 in cash. Six individuals were charged, with two others facing trafficking charges.
Additionally, in Maple Ridge, RCMP specialized units conducted enforcement actions against street disorder and drug trafficking. Between late June and early July, a Strike Force Unit seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, MDMA, and crack cocaine, leading to six drug trafficking arrests and two arrests for outstanding warrants. A separate retail shoplifting blitz in late July resulted in seven arrests.
