Canadian Police Services Launch Human Trafficking Awareness Drive on World Day

On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the Ottawa Police Service partnered with the Ottawa International Airport and the Not In My City campaign to raise public awareness, train staff and improve reporting of human trafficking. Deputy Police Chief Paul Burnett highlighted the city’s commitment, while musician Paul Brandt, founder of Not In My City, stressed the need for early intervention.

The Durham Regional Police Service issued a similar statement, noting that its Human Trafficking Unit conducted 1,332 investigations between 2021 and 2025, laid 754 charges and assisted 1,175 at‑risk individuals. In June‑July 2026 the service joined an Ontario‑wide, multi‑agency enforcement initiative involving 18 police services, which identified 98 people in the sex trade and expanded investigative collaboration across the province.
