Turkey and Canada Launch Free Trade Agreement Talks
During the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the official start of negotiations for a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Turkey and Canada. The leaders issued a joint statement confirming that the exploratory discussions held in June have moved to formal negotiations, with technical teams from both countries slated to define the scope and objectives in the coming weeks.
The proposed FTA aims to deepen bilateral economic cooperation, increase trade and investment, create jobs, enhance competitiveness, and strengthen global supply chains. It is expected to cover goods, services, digital trade, investment and public procurement, and to support sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, aerospace, and clean‑energy technologies. Both ministries highlighted that the agreement will support economic growth and provide new opportunities for businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.
