Canadian Solar's CS PowerTech launches 6 GW solar cell plant in Indiana

CS PowerTech, the U.S. manufacturing subsidiary of Canadian Solar, inaugurated the first phase of its solar‑cell plant at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana, on July 24‑27, 2026. The facility is designed to produce more than 6 GW‑peak per year of heterojunction bifacial N‑type solar cells, the first U.S. plant to make this high‑efficiency product, and will feed cells to a Canadian Solar module plant in Mesquite, Texas.

The project represents nearly $1 billion in local investment and will support about 1,200 manufacturing, engineering and technical jobs, adding to the company’s U.S. workforce of over 3,000. Canadian Solar CEO Colin Parkin said the plant strengthens domestic solar capacity and can lower electricity costs, while Indiana Governor Mike Braun highlighted the boost to advanced manufacturing and the state’s role in clean‑energy leadership.
