Canary Islands announces record 492 health training positions

The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has announced a record 492 specialized health training (FSE) positions for the 2026-2027 academic year. This represents a 5.81% increase compared to the previous call and a total growth of 168 positions since 2018, outperforming the Spanish national average growth of 3.9%.

The expansion is driven by the ‘+Atención Primaria’ strategy, focusing on strengthening primary care, emergency services, and mental health. Key allocations include 98 positions for Family and Community Medicine and 34 for Family and Community Nursing. Emergency Medicine positions have doubled from three to six.

In the field of mental health, there are 41 total positions, including psychiatry, clinical psychology, and mental health nursing. The training program also aims to consolidate medical education in non-capital islands, such as Lanzarote, to improve the recruitment and retention of specialists.
