Canary Islands appoints Dayana Morales as delegate in Venezuela, vice‑consejero Perestelo begins response review

The Government of the Canary Islands has named Dayana Morales as its new delegate in Venezuela. Morales, a public‑accounting graduate with extensive experience in administration and finance, previously served as secretary of the Vice‑Consejería de Acción Exterior and worked with Canary migrant and health foundations in Venezuela.

Vice‑consejero José Luis Perestelo arrived in Caracas for a mission that will run until 15 August. The visit aims to assess the measures taken after the twin earthquakes on 24 June, strengthen coordination with Spanish diplomatic representatives, and adjust assistance for the Canarian community and their descendants living in Venezuela. Meetings were held with the Spanish consul‑general Ramón Molina and the embassy’s labour, migration and social security counsellor Julio Cruz. This is the first official Canary Islands delegation trip to Venezuela since the seismic events, forming part of a longer‑term monitoring plan.

The delegation’s work focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of aid, hearing the needs of Canarian residents, and ensuring the regional response continues to meet evolving conditions on the ground.
