Canary Islands earthquake relief in Venezuela

Overview

Following twin earthquakes in Venezuela on 24 June, the Government of the Canary Islands has initiated a series of administrative and humanitarian responses to support the Canarian community and their descendants.

In early August, the Canary Islands government appointed Dayana Morales as its new delegate in Venezuela. Concurrently, Vice-consejero José Luis Perestelo conducted a mission to Caracas to assess post-earthquake measures, coordinate with Spanish diplomatic representatives, and evaluate the effectiveness of regional aid.

By mid-August, the humanitarian response expanded through the Directorate General of Emigration. The government increased its food and medicine aid programs, adding 3,988 new beneficiaries. Distribution efforts, led by Director General of Emigration José Téllez and Delegate Morales, have targeted residents across multiple states, including Carabobo, Aragua, Mérida, and La Guaira, as well as Caracas and Anzoátegui.
