Canary Islands expand elderly care infrastructure

Local governments in the Canary Islands are expanding sociosanitary infrastructure to support aging populations. In El Paso, La Palma, construction is progressing on a new residential center for the elderly. This project, representing an investment of 945,000 euros, will add 12 new residential places to the island's capacity. The initiative is supported by the Cabildo de La Palma, the Government of the Canary Islands, and funded through Next Generation EU recovery funds.

In Fuerteventura, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura has announced plans for a new sociosanitary residence in Gran Tarajal. This project involves an initial investment of 15.3 million euros and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2027. Once finished, the facility will provide 90 total places, including 60 residential spots, 30 day-care spots, and 12 family respite places, aimed at improving the quality of life for elderly and dependent residents.
