Canary Islands government allocates funds to agricultural and livestock sectors

The Government of the Canary Islands has announced two distinct sets of financial aid aimed at supporting the region's primary and livestock sectors.

First, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty has allocated 350,000 euros in subsidies to 14 non-profit professional agricultural associations. These funds, financed entirely by the autonomous community's own resources, are intended to cover operating, management, training, and representation costs. Major beneficiaries include ASAJA Canarias, COAG-Canarias, ASOCAN, and the Business Association of Livestock and Dairy Industries of the Canary Islands.

Additionally, the regional government has approved 1.94 million euros in subsidies under the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (PEPAC) to modernize 55 livestock farms. This program, co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADER), the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and the regional government, covers between 40% and 70% of eligible expenses. The funding is designated for improvements such as building construction, machinery acquisition, waste management, digitalization, and renewable energy investments. The aid is split into two annual installments for 2026 and 2027.
