Canary Islands agricultural and livestock subsidies

Overview

The Government of the Canary Islands has implemented several financial aid measures to support the region's agricultural and livestock sectors.

In mid-August 2026, the regional government approved 5.05 million euros in subsidies to assist 78 young farmers. This initiative, part of the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (PEPAC), is co-financed by the European Union, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and the Canary Islands. Agriculture Minister Narvay Quintero described the measure as a “fundamental tool to encourage generational renewal.”

By late August, additional funding was announced. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food allocated 350,000 euros to 14 non-profit professional agricultural associations to cover operating and training costs. Furthermore, 1.94 million euros was approved under the PEPAC to modernize 55 livestock farms. This funding, which covers between 40% and 70% of eligible expenses, is intended for improvements such as machinery acquisition, waste management, digitalization, and renewable energy investments.
