Canary Islands Government Opposed on Tourism Decree and Migrant Minor Triage

The PSOE parliamentary group in the Canary Islands has accused the regional government of seeking to approve a new Tourism Law through an urgent decree, describing the move as “fraudulent” and a bypass of the public consultation process that began in July 2025. The party claims the executive is avoiding parliamentary debate despite the sector enjoying record occupancy and revenue.

Separately, the Canary Islands administration said it will reject a request from the Spanish central government to appoint temporary representatives for unaccompanied migrant minors during the triage phase. Officials argue that no clear protocol has been established and that the obligations under EU regulation have not been explained, prompting a planned bilateral meeting on 26 August to resolve the issue.
