Canary Islands health service issues urgent blood donation appeal
The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has issued an urgent appeal to the public to donate blood following a decline in hemocomponent reserves. While donations of all blood types are needed, the health authorities emphasized that blood groups O+, O-, A+, and A- are of particular priority.
The General Directorate of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy is reinforcing this call through social media and SMS messages sent to registered blood and platelet donors. Similar appeals were made during the summer to address seasonal declines in donations.
Donation centers are available across several islands, including La Palma, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria. Specific locations include the General University Hospital of La Palma, the Méndez Núñez point in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and various health centers and hospitals in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
